William Latney Obituary

William Leon Latney, 91, of Warrenton, VA, passed July 30, 2020, at Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton, VA.   He was born on February 14, 1929, in Fauquier County, VA, to the late Harriet Grooms Logan.

William was reared in Hurleytown by his grandparents, Elvira and Horton Logan, his mother, and later by his stepfather, William Bridgett.  He was lovingly known as “Latney” or “Jubal” and was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Midland (Hurleytown) VA.  William graduated from Rosenwald High School in 1949.  After school he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1951 to 1954. He was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

Latbey had an array of jobs, and lastly William worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Corp. (A&P) where he retired.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, a good game of dominos and of course SLEEPING.  He had a mind of an elephant; he could quote birth and death dates of past family members like it was nothing.  He would always have a story to tell about growing up in Hurleytown.  He also had a big heart.

Latney was preceded in death by his parents and a very special friend, Florese Brown.  Latney would be seen sitting in the car asleep while waiting for Ms. Florese to come out of the store.

Latney leaves to cherish his memory: his special cousins: Howard Logan who he called “Daddy”, Levering Rector, Jason and Kailyn Logan who he fondly referred to as his “little brother and little sister”. He also loved his two little cousins: Ava and Niya, “his babies”.  He also leaves to cherish his memory, his special friend and co-worker, Rufus Collins. They worked together and remained good friends for many years.  Latney was also blessed to have a host of many relatives and friends.

Due to the current conditions and restrictions, a private service will be held.
