Wayne Nelson Shorts

Wayne Nelson Shorts, 71, of Manassas, VA, passed April 30, 2023.  He was born on May 10, 1951.   He was born to Horace and Gertrude Shorts, who both preceded him in death.  He was one of ten children in this union.

Wayne attended Antioch McCrea School in Haymarket, VA, and Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas VA.

Wayne was a highly rated high school football player, receiving many honors for his aggressive tactics.  He loved the local professional team the Washington Commanders.  Wayne was an avid small game hunter, primarily rabbits and squirrels.  However, fishing was his greatest passion.  Wayne also loved to cook his catch.

Wayne worked for many years as a Foreman and retired from Vulcan Materials in Manassas, VA.

Wayne leaves to mourn three sisters: Ann Shelton of Manassas, VA, Laura Bushrod of Fredericksburg, VA, Gertrude Mebaine of Bladensburg, MD; three brothers: Edward Braxton of Atlanta, GA, Reverend H. Dwight Shorts (Conchita) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Charles Shorts (Amanda) of Dacula, GA.  Wayne also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, especially Karen Culpeper and other beloved relatives and friends.  He leaves specials friends Bobby Washington, Kemper Powell, and Jay Jackson. Wayne was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Gillis, and two brothers: Harold Braxton and Larry Shorts.
