On Wednesday August 7, 2024, around 9 pm, at Manassas Health and Rehab in Manassas, Virginia, God called Sheila Mae Carter home. Sheila Mae Carter, of Manassas, VA, affectionally known as “Momma, Granny, Auntie, Sunshine, and of course Sista Carter” was born September 10, 1935, to Blanche and Jerome Johnson in Fairfax, Virginia.
Sheila attended Fairfax County Public Schools. Sheila was married to the late Robert Taylor Carter in 1951, they went on to have six children: Four boys and two girls. Sheila was a devoted member of Community Baptist Church in Fairfax Station, Virginia. She started her career cleaning houses for doctors before working at Barcroft, which she went on to retire from in the 80’s. After retiring she went back to work, but this time for Fairfax County Schools and Prince William County Schools until she finally retired for good in 2016.
Sheila is survived by four children: Linda Hunt of Woodbridge, Virginia, Katherine (Freeman) Clay of Sterling, Virginia, Larry N. Carter of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Arthur Carter of Manassas, Virgina; one sister, Florence Garnett; nine grandchildren: Catrina (Joseph) Gingrich, John (Jermell) Jackson, Cheyenne Davis, Denisha Scott, Direeka Wheeler, Robert (Kathleen) Wheeler, Linda Wheeler, Joseph (Jen) Wheeler and Latricia Woodson, 36 great grandchildren, 36 great-great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Sheila was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Taylor Carter, sons: Randolph Carter and Robert Carter; her mother and father: Blanche and Jerome Johnson; sisters and brothers: Berthena Gaskins, Ardrick Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Elliott Johnson, Ethel Marshall, Peyton Johnson, William Johnson, and Landonia Johnson; grandsons: Robert Lambert, Leroy Lambert, Antione Lambert and Randy Dixon.
Family will receive friends on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 10 am until 11 am with funeral services starting at 11 am at Community Baptist Church, 10112 Community Lane, Fairfax Station, Virginia, 22039. Rev. Harold Hassie Howard will deliver the eulogy.
