Samuel Louis (Benny) Poles, Sr, of Warrenton, Virginia, March 10, 2024, peacefully and calmly answered our Lord and Savior's call. Benny was born to the late French and Emily Poles on October 25, 1933, in Fauquier County, Virginia.
Benny was educated at the Manassas Industrial School for Colored Youth (Jenny Dean), in Manassas, Virginia and later attended W. C. Taylor School in Warrenton, Virginia.
On November 21, 1964, Benny married Bessie Jackson Poles of Bealeton, Virginia
Benny was a hard worker and provider for his family. He worked several jobs over his career, which included: Fred Scott of Marshall, Virginia; Hazel Construction (20 years) and Superior Asphalt in Gainesville, Virginia. He also was employed by the Highland School of Warrenton, Virginia, as a school bus driver of Warrenton. He retired in 1992. Retirement was good to Benny with his daily morning visits to Frost Diner for breakfast; watching television; doing Word Finds; talking on the phone to his nieces and cousins; always wanting to know what his grandchildren were doing in school, sports and the community.
Benny accepted Jesus into his heart at an early age at Beulah Baptist Church, Markham, under the leadership of Reverend Douglas Gore. Benny was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church. He was active as a devoted Usher on the Senior Usher Board until his health began to fail.
Benny loved all sports, especially baseball. He played for local baseball teams all over the county as a young man. He was well known as being a good pitcher. He was often called to umpire as well. When anyone visited his home, they had to be prepared to look at whatever sports were on the television. Benny was also known to sleep with his eyes opened while looking at TV!
Benny leaves precious memories to his devoted wife, Bessie Poles, Warrenton, Virginia and son Samuel (Sam) Poles (Jackie) of Hume, Virginia and daughter, Quantia Poles, Warrenton, a son, Palmer (Tina) Brown of Manassas, daughters, Pamela Bell, Richmond, and Marian (Coo) (Roscoe) Brown-Brewer, Falls Church. Grandchildren: Darian and Cameron Poles, A’Shiaya Brooks, Mardale Brown, Mario Bell, Jesse, Marcus and Lamar Brewer; 15 great grandchildren, two sister- in-laws, Gladys Poles and Constance Ball, one brother-in-law, Edward (Alice) Jackson; and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings; French, James, Charles, Fred, Alfonso, Mary, Viola and Louise and three grandsons Jymmal Brown, Samuel Poles III and Carrington Poles.
Family will receive friends on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 10 am until 11 am with funeral services starting at 11 am at Beulah Baptist Church, 3124 Beulah Road, Markham, VA, 22643. Rev. Henry Hall will deliver the eulogy.
