Rev. Alphonso Washington, 106, of Culpeper, VA, passed February 1, 2020, at UVA Culpeper Hospital. He was born on October 18, 1913.
Rev. Washington was a graduate of Guadelupe College in Seguin College, Seguin, Texas, San Marcos, Texas Public School Board for 12 Years, San Marcos City Planning and Zoning Commission for 12 Years, Community Action of Hays, Caldwell and Blanco Counties for 25 years, Chaplain of American Legion Post 144 for 25 years, and 10th District American Legion Chaplain. He was the Associate Pastor of Mt. Morris Baptist Church, Hume, VA and son of Providence Baptist Church, Orlean, VA.
Alphonso is survived by his wife, Carol P. Washington of Culpeper, VA; two sons: Samuel L. Washington of Falls Church, VA, Willie E. Washington of Nashville, TN; two step sons: Howard Solomon of Culpeper, VA, Joseph (Tracy) Solomon of Woodbridge, VA; step daughter, Debra Whitmore of Culpeper, VA; step daughter, Christine Solomon of Culpeper, VA; two brothers: Rev. Fred (Gladys) Poles of Hume, VA, Benny (Bessie) Poles of Warrenton, VA; a sister, Viola Gaskins of Burke, VA; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; .
Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 8, 2020, from 10 am until 11am with funeral services starting at 11 am at Wayland Blue Ridge Baptist Center, 15044 Ryland Chapel Road, Rixeyville, Virginia, 22737. Rev. Maxwell Washington will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will be in Mt. Morris Community Cemetery, Hume, VA.
