Rebecca Singleton Pearson, 77, of Haymarket, Virginia, passed December 12, 2025.
On Friday, December 12, 2025, Rebecca Pearson, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, slipped quietly away to the arms of Jesus due to complications from a liver transplant she received 23 years ago. Rebecca was born with an autoimmune disease to the late Henry and Pearline Singleton on March 18, 1948, in Hampton, Virginia. Rebecca attended the local schools in Hampton Roads, attending Phenix High School but graduating from Kaiserslautern High School in Germany, where her father, Henry Singleton, was stationed in the US Army. When Rebecca returned to the US, she attended Hampton Institute, now known as Hampton University, and graduated in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. At Hampton University, she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Theta Chapter, and served as the line leader.
On August 15, 1971, Rebecca and Kenneth Pearson wed; from this union, two daughters, Eboni Pearson Yayih and Aisha Pearson-Lomax, were born. Pursuing her passion for education, she attended Rider University and earned her master’s degree. Rebecca and Kenneth taught school for nine years in Trenton, New Jersey, where the children were born. In 1979, the family relocated to Manassas, Virginia. And soon, the family bonds of love were temporarily broken as Rebecca and Kenneth divorced. She became a single parent and head of her household. In her career, Rebecca quickly moved up, starting as a teacher and then being promoted to a curriculum specialist, personnel specialist, vice principal, and ultimately principal of Greenbriar East Elementary School. She diligently gave 35 years of service to Fairfax County Public Schools. Upon her retirement as principal, she worked as an Area Superintendent and consulted for the State of Virginia.
Rebecca was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Manassas. In 2018, she was consecrated as a deaconess and served as chair. Rebecca co-founded the first women’s retreat. She was a member of the Voices of Hope choir. She was a trustee member during the building of the new sanctuary and assisted with the children’s Christmas play. Rebecca was a strong woman of faith with a spirit of adventure and competitiveness. She enjoyed playing cards and watching sports. And she led an active life. Rebecca loved to dance and loved music. She loved to travel the world with her cousins and friends (the golden girls).
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters: Eboni I. Pearson and Aisha J. Lomax both of Haymarket; her beloved brother, Herbert Byrd and his wife, Beverly of Haymarket, VA; five grandchildren: Jinar Logan, Johannes Logan, Jordan Logan, Aliyah Lomax, and Bennett Lomax Jr.; one great-grandchild, Phoenix Logan; and her niece, who was more like a sister to her, Jacqueline Cassandra Wilson. Preceding her in death were her father, mother, husband, sister Caroline Parks, brother Henry O. Singleton, nephews David Byrd and Rashard Wilson, Cousin Opel, and many aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 11 AM until 1 PM with funeral services starting at 1 PM at First Baptist Church, 9258 Center St., Manassas, VA, 20110. Rev. Dr. Keith Savage will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will be in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, VA.
Services will be streamed live at 1 pm at https://www.youtube.com/live/P63TnMzB0cg?si=AQYPUqqQHfbifldb
