Preston Johnson, Sr. Obituary

Elder Preston Prince Johnson Sr., 71, of Warrenton, VA affectionately known as “Peppy” transitioned to glory on August 6th, 2020 at BridgePoint Hospital, Capitol Hill, Washington, DC.  He was born December 2nd, 1948 in Bernalillo County, Albuquerque, NM.

Preston was the second child of ten children born to the late Lindal and Joy Lee Schofield Johnson.  He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Gregory Fletcher.

Preston was reared in Albuquerque by his mother, Joy Lee Schofield, and later by his father, Lindal Johnson in Los Angeles, CA.  After high school, Preston attended the University of New Mexico but decided to leave school early to enlist in the United States Navy in March 1968.

In January of 1970, Preston was stationed at the Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune, NC. There, he met the love of his life, Rosa Nell Wilkins. They immediately fell in love and joined in holy matrimony on March 11, 1972.  To this union was born three amazing children, Miranda, Preston Jr., and Chris Tina. In addition to this; there are four beautiful grandchildren: Christana, Jada, Noah, and Nyah.

Preston was a patient man with the kindest of heart. When he wasn’t caring for his own family, he lived a life dedicated to the wellbeing of others. For over 21 years, he fulfilled the roll of a Navy Corpsman. He boarded ships, trudged through rugged terrain and diligently took care of Navy Sailors and Marines medical needs. Preston devotedly reported to naval hospitals and medical cruises around the world. He did not seek the approval of people but rather he was a loyal servant of God.

Preston was always ready for an adventure. He loved to travel, and also found comfort in a quiet place where he could build imaginations by reading to his grandchildren. He enjoyed painting, photography, loved studying and teaching the Word of God. His favorite bible verse is Psalm 48 “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness’’.

Preston was a man who loved God, his family and his church. Preston was a gentle giant and a friend to many. He was especially grateful to have a son, Preston, Jr. and overjoyed to have a mother-in-law as sweet as Mother Rosa Ann Bannerman Meredith better known as “Mom” who was glad to have another son to pamper.

Our hearts are broken on today and we will miss him. On this day we humbly submit to the will of God. We lay our beloved Preston – Peppy – Daddy – Papa down for his final rest.
