Natasha “Nana” Grant, 78, of Clinton, MD, passed on the night of Sept 5, 2024, surrounded by her sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
On November 12, 1945, Natasha LaVerne Ferguson made her entrance into the world. Natasha was number 7 of 12 children from her parents Joe and Mary Ferguson in their small hometown of Jeffersonton, Virginia. Natasha grew up on her family’s farm, where her parents were instilling them with “The Ferguson Way”.
She attended G W Carver Primary School as a child, She enjoyed playing softball, helping her family prepare meals, reading new books and spending time with her siblings. In the very late 50s, Natasha enrolled in McKinley Tech Secondary School for a short period of time before starting a family with Eddie Grant in Washington, DC. She created a home for her family in 1972 in Jeffersonton, VA on the family land and was married for 25 years.
From this point forward, Natasha was all about family, hard work, and having fun while doing both. Natasha and her siblings opened their own family’s
business named Fergie’s Restaurant. This is where Natasha’s love for food really grew. She dedicated her working years to service by being an employee of Giant’s Food Market and other food chain stores. She would then go on to spend the next 30 years as a Food Service Manager for the Dept. of Corrections, where she retired. Knowing Natasha, she kept those inmates in shape.
Natasha’s favorite thing more than family, was watching a Washington Redskins’ football game. She also enjoyed gardening, playing board and card games with just about anyone, and traveling to many different casinos. Natasha was the true definition of love knows no measures. She was truly the backbone of her family. Her strength and determination never changed, even while fighting her battle with cancer. Some of the hardest years of Natasha’s life were she spent many sleepless nights, caring for her only daughter Bonita while she was ill. In the years to follow, she relocated to Clinton, MD and would pick up many house hobbies such as knitting puppies, caring for her plants, and watching “her stories”… her favorite being General Hospital and she never missed the Price is Right. She was “Nana” to many people. Everyone looked forward to her yearly Thanksgiving dinners and homemade eggnog. Her contagious smile and warm heart would reel you in and shortly after, she was your Nana as well.
She is survived by two children: Gregory D. Grant, Sr. (Mabel), Purcel A. Grant, one goddaughter, Tiffany Boyde Wesley; grandchildren: Gregory Grant, Jr., Vangie Mendes (Miguel), Natasha Carroll, Marie Lee (Jason), Stephfan Gordon (Allison), Raisa Thomas (Antonio), Jazzmyn Gordon, Shanell Westinson (Krista), Dhymyn Grant, Tayhlor Grant, McKinley Grant; great-grandchildren: Michael Grant, Aniscia Thompson, Dheyvion Grant, Keelyn Grant, Jonah Mendes, Kai Mendes, Xomari Mendes, Krisshonni Mekhemer, Kamani Jackson,Mya Lee, Adrian Lee,Jaylah Gordon, Ayaine Thomas, Delano Thomas, Santana Thomas, Nero Johnson, Sowiee Johnson, Nero Johnson, Sowiee Johnson; and a great-great grandchild, Kairo Mekhemer.
