Mary Ella (Gaines) Smith

On Thursday, April 18, 2024, Mary Ella "Sis" Smith was called home to be with the Lord.

She is survived by four children: Betty Smith Marshall, Larry Smith, Barbara Smith, and Regina Smith).  She is also survived by one sister, Gwendolyn Gaines; two step–brothers: Charles (Mary) Washington and Wallace Washington, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives plus many friends.  She was preceded in death by her father, Elder Lark Brown Gaines and mother, Mary Katherine Diggs Gaines, her husband, Ray Daniel Smith and a son, Ray Daniel Smith, Jr and her son-in-law, David Leon Marshall.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Elder Lark Brown Gaines, Jr.; and two sisters: Katherine Marie Gaines Thompson Payne and Augustine Davidson.

Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 10 am to 11 am with funeral services starting at 11 am at Mt Morris Baptist Church, 5342 Leeds Manor Rd, Hume, VA 22639.

Interment will be in the Mt. Morris Community Cemetery, Hume, VA.
