Larry Cornelius Hall was born January 12, 1943, in Middleburg, Virginia, to the late Hattie L. Strozier and Elwood Hall. Larry departed this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at UVA Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, Virginia.
Larry grew up in Middleburg and received his elementary education at Banneker Elementary School in St. Louis, Virginia, and his high school diploma in 1961 from Douglas High School in Leesburg, Virginia. While at Douglas, he played basketball and was a member of the Dramatics Club. Larry had a very outgoing personality and a great sense of humor. He made many long-lasting friendships.
From a young age, Larry didn’t have a problem working; he always had a job. His employment included Shoe Shine & Repair in Middleburg, Virginia, butler for the Tenner family, along with his mother and Aunt Carrie Donaldson. He worked at the car dealerships: Wissinger’s, Arlington, Virginia; Peacock Buick, Falls Church, Virginia and was a truck driver for George White Oil Co. and David Michaels Oil Co., Hazel Paving Co., and Goumeco Import foods. Again, he made many lifelong friends.
On August 29, 1964, after dating four years, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Ollie Lee Swann. From this union, they were blessed with two children: Rodney and Patty.
During his early years, he and his family worshipped at Ashbury Methodist Church and Shiloh Baptist Church in Middleburg, Virginia. Larry was baptized at their sister church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Rectortown, Virginia, by Rev. Matthew J. Pearson, and received the right hand of fellowship at First Ashville Baptist Church, Marshall, Virginia, on May 4, 1971.
Larry had a very loving and caring spirit. After retiring, he was a driver for many friends, carrying them to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and to the airport, to name a few. He loved and cared for his family in every way. If there was a need, he would go to any length to make it happen.
To cherish and honor his memory, he leaves his wife of fifty-eight years, Ollie L. Hall; one son, Rodney; one daughter, Patty Murray (Curtis) all of Middleburg, Virginia; one brother, Elwood Hall (Martha-deceased) of Leesburg, Virginia; two sisters: Mary Randolph (Herbert) of Leesburg, Virginia and Patsy Haley of Marshall, Virginia. He was affectionately called “G Daddy” by his eight grandchildren: Antoinette, Rodney (Melinda), Jocelyn, Darius, Curtis Jr., Morgan, Kimberly and Austin; and 1 adopted grandson, Antonio. Larry also had one godson, Halbert Anderson; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Helen Hall of Manassas, Virginia; two aunts: Elizabeth Smith of Washington, D.C. and Dorothy Smith of Marshall, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law: Rev. William Swann (Sylvia-deceased), Curtis Hatcher of Middleburg, Virginia, Herbert Randolph of Leesburg, Virginia and Calvin Clark of Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hall, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Hall; and sisters: Barbara Hatcher and Carolyn Clark.
