It is with deep sorrow and immense love that we announce the passing of Justin Alexander Dawns, affectionately known as BudBud, J, and Justonian, on August 10, 2025, in Warrenton, VA. He was 16 years old.
Justin was born on November 22, 2008, in Arlington, VA, to his loving parents, Willie and Tawanda Dawns. He was a vibrant and kind young man whose calm spirit, playful nature, and fierce determination touched everyone he met. A rising senior at Kettle Run High School, Justin was known for his strong academic interest in psychology, math, and history—especially enjoying the guidance of his favorite teacher, Mrs. Murphy. He had ambitious dreams for the future, considering careers as a plumber, a doctor, or even a fighter—testament to his strength and sense of purpose. Justin was a gifted athlete, competing in track as a sprinter and as a lightweight wrestler throughout his sophomore and junior years. Outside of school sports, he also had a passion for boxing, demonstrating dedication and discipline in all his pursuits. Beyond the classroom and athletic field, Justin was a beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, and friend. He brought joy through the simplest moments—playing Uno, watching Spiderman, gaming on Terraria, or sneaking up to scare someone just to hear their laughter. He loved fitness, spending time with friends, and had an ear for good music. Whether he was saying “Meep” or asking someone to “Rate my fit,” he had a knack for making memories and brightening days.
Justin was a member of Faith Christian Church International Outreach Center. He participated in charitable causes such as food banks and coat drives. His heart was full of love, his faith quiet but strong, and his commitment to helping others always clear.
Justin is survived by his devoted parents, Willie and Tawanda Dawns, and his loving sister, Lauryn Taylor Dawns. He is also survived by his great-grandmother Camiella Briggs; grandmothers: Linda King, step grandmother, Catherine Dawns and Tanya Hawley (special adopted grandmother); grandfather, Willie Dawns, Sr.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family, including his godmother, Carol Smalls, god sister, Yumiah Kirby-Caldwell; god niece, Kaylee Monroe Kirby-Caldwell; and many great-aunts and great-uncles who cherished him deeply. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Eva Mae Holliday; grandfathers: Lawrence Burton, Sr., and Willie Floyd Holliday, and other cherished family members.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a visitation period with the family from 10 am until 11 am at: Faith Christian Church & International Outreach Center, 6472 Duhollow Rd, Warrenton, VA 20187. Dr. Decker H. Tapscott, Sr. will deliver the eulogy.
