Joyce Ann O’Neill Ferguson was born March 21, 1948, in The Plains, Virginia, to Willie D. O’Neill, Sr. and Edna S. O’Neill as the youngest of four children. Those who knew her called her Polly. She earned her Master’s Degree in social work and also taught for a time. One of her dreams was to travel and explore the world, so she enlisted into the United States Army around 1977 and retired from Army life in 1992. In 1993, with her two children, Kristi and Andrew, she settled in McDonough, Georgia and started working for both Budget and Publix where she was able to meet a great many people that she would call family and friends. She finally fully retired around 2016 where she began to fulfill another dream of working full-time for GOD. There never went a day that she was not in the church. She was a member of several prayer groups across several Catholic parishes. In January 2020 Joyce was diagnosed with cancer and through her FAITH never wavered on the fact that God was with her. Due to complications of that cancer, she entered into her eternal rest during the early morning hours of October 22, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Decatur, Georgia. Joyce is survived by her son Andrew K. Ferguson, her daughter Kristi F. Cody and Son-In-Law C. Kyle Cody. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Marjorie O’Neill, four nieces and nephews along with their spouses, many grandnieces and grandnephews and a multitude of cousins. She will be greatly missed but she can finally relax at the family reunion in Heaven.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, from 10 am until 12 pm at Joynes Funeral Home, 29 N. Third St., Warrenton, VA 20186. A graveside service with military honors will be held immediately after the visitation at 1 pm at Solon Cemetery, 795 W. Washington, St., Middleburg, VA 20117.
