Inita Sheppard Bland

Inita Sheppard Bland, 89, of Warrenton, VA, was called home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2020 at Fauquier Hospital, in Warrenton, VA.  She was born June 24, 1931, in Jeffersonton, VA, the eldest of thirteen children born to Robert and Marie Sheppard.  She married William Bland, Jr. in 1953; four sons and three daughters were born of this union.  She was educated in the Culpeper County School system.  She joined Rising Zion Baptist Church in Jeffersonton, VA, at an early age and later moved her membership to her husband’s church, The First Baptist Church, The Plains, VA. 

Inita worked many years as a cook and housekeeper for various private families.  She was a powerful Matriarch, a strong, determined and independent woman.  She had the strength of a lioness and a smile that could light up a room.  She cared deeply for her family; her children, the grand- and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life.  Everyone Inita came in contact with fell in love with her.  

Inita was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, William; her sisters, Yvonne Long, Ethel Brown, Mary Ellen Yates and her brothers, Frank, Melvin, Wilbur, and James Sheppard, and her granddaughter, Tonya Bland.

The family will hold a private graveside service on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 12 pm, at the family cemetery in Jeffersonton, VA.  Due to COVID-19, only family and close friends will be in attendance.
