Hattie Ella Pearson Donald transitioned to her 'heavenly home' on May 25, 2023 in Aldie, VA.
She was born on July 1, 1929, to James and Ella Pearson in Bennettsville, S.C.
She was educated in the Marlboro County School District and graduated from Benedict College in Columbia. She worked in the field of home economics, library science and education, after obtaining her degree. She also did further studies pursuant of a postgraduate degree at Clemson University, Clemson, S.C. She worked for the state of South Carolina, including the Columbia Housing Authority and the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. She retired in 1990 from the South Carolina Department of Mental Health of Columbia.
She was a First Calvary Baptist Church member in Columbia for over 70 years. She was continually active in the church until her change in health status and subsequent move to Virginia. She lived with her youngest daughter and son-in-law in Springfield, Va.
She is survived by one sister, Lillian Purdie; one sister-in-law, Vera Donald Davis; five children, Millicent D. Pringle (Reuben), Robert L. Donald, Jr (Yvonne), Charles Donald, Melody D. (GG) Wheatley (Kevin), George Donald; eleven grandchildren, Byron, Kimberly, Robert, III, Bethany, Baichard, Maya, Kevin, Jr, Brandon, Leslie, Pearson, Louis; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held at Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street in Columbia on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10 with public viewing beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the 11 a.m. service at First Calvary Baptist Church, 1401 Pine Street in Columbia.
Internment will immediately follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road in Columbia, SC.
