Faithe LaVerne Smith of Centreville, Virgnia, passed on April 1, 2021. She was born October 29, 1950 in Washington, D.C. She was the first born child of Rev. Dr. Norman William and Grace Thompson Smith of Gainesville, Virginia.
Faithe was educated in the Washington, D.C., Fairfax County and Prince William County school systems, graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Virginia in 1968. Faithe attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond Virginia, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1972. While at VCU, she founded the Black Awakening Choir in 1970, one of the oldest student organizations on campus that is still active today.
Faithe was trained by Professor Guy V. Collins, Sr. in classical and sacred music. Faithe was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rectortown, Virginia where she was the pianist for the Gospel Chorus. Faithe led The Gospel Chorus for over 55 years as its only pianist and directress.
Faithe recently retired after 30 years of employment as a Digital Learning Specialist with Fairfax County Public Schools-Fairfax Network.
Faithe is survived by her sisters: Leah Jackson, Lorri Jackson and husband Bruce; her brother, Timothy Smith and wife, Memo. Also surviving are her goddaughters: nieces Samantha and Trinity, Anneka and husband, Ronnie, Renisha, Jordin and husband, Dave, Lorrin and husband, Darnell, Elizabeth, Renee, Corin, Tiphany, Tamia, Tiani, and Tatiana. Her great-nieces: Le’Ana, Alanah, Hazel, Sydnei and Kali; and great-nephews: Donovan, David, Micah, Gabriel, Eli, and Jeremiah whom will carry her legacy. Also cherishing her memory are her aunts: Geraldine Smith, Marva Mills, and Yvonne Smith. She was preceded in death by both parents: Rev. Dr. Norman and Grace Smith and her brother, Norman, Jr. Faithe also leaves numerous cousins and close friends including Reverend and Mrs. Rodney L. Smith, Sr.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021, 12 Noon, at Faith Christian Church, 6472 Duhollow Road, Warrenton, Virginia 20187. Pastor Rodney L. Smith, Sr., will be the eulogist.
