Dorothy Hazel Ross Jackson, of Gainesville, VA, entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at her home surrounded by family.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, her nine children, Gwen C. Motley (the late Travis Motley), Claude L. Jr, Rodney W. Sr. (Marsha), Tina R. Moore (Marcell), Bruce A. (Lorri), Carroll E. Sr, Derek (Mercedes), Dawn C. Walker (Joseph), Troy E. Sr. (Tamika). She also leaves 27 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, one sister MaryAnn Settle (the late Sherman C. Settle, Jr.) two brothers, James Anderson (Brenda) and Paul Moore (Annette), one God son Bryant K. Settle and one nephew/son, Eric L. Jackson. She had a special relationship with Emily Ford as they were more like sisters than aunt and niece.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Claude, (Mickey) Jackson, one son Kelly Jackson, her parents Clem and Zulean Ross, three grandsons, Wayland and Jason Jackson, and Jawann Carter, seven sisters and four brothers.
Dorothy was the twelfth of thirteen children born on April 26th, 1937, to the late Clem E. and Zulean G. Ross in Fauquier County, Virginia. She attended Prince William County Schools and at the age of 15, she married the love of her life, Claude L. Jackson, Sr. on December 4, 1954. Their love lasted 52 years until God called him home.
Her favorite pass time things included going to yard sales, gospel programs and to see her grandchildren playing sports. She also loved to bake, but, if her cakes did not turn out right, for whatever reason, she would chop them up and feed them to the chickens or pigs. No was not in her vocabulary; she was grandma to everybody that met her. She lived for Jesus who was her everything to the very end of her life. As the song says, “If I could not say a word, I would just wave my hand” and that is exactly what she did as she departed this life.
Dorothy was always cheerful, giving, kind and loving to everyone she knew. She had a great love for children whether they were hers or not. In addition to her nine children, she helped to raise several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all her nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Her smile and warmth will be forever remembered.
Services will be held on May 23, 2025, at Crossway Fellowship Church, 8601 Plantation Lane, Manassas, VA 20110. Viewing will be 10 am to 11 a.m.
Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Upperville, VA. Repast immediately following at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 2932 Atoka Road, Rectortown, VA, 20115.
