Doris Fletcher Obituary

Doris Anne Bolden Fletcher 81, of Warrenton, VA, departed this life on March 7, 2024, at Spring Oak, Warrenton VA.  She was the daughter of Ethel Hughes Bolden and John Wesley Bolden, born July 17, 1942.   She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Duval G. Bolden, Sr., Wesley W. Bolden, and Phylis A. Bolden; and her son, Samuel D. Fletcher Jr.

Doris was baptized in June of 1947, under Rev. Arthur Stuart, at First Ashville Baptist Church.  She was a regular Sunday school student and attended Baptist Training Union (BTU) classes on Wednesday nights.  After residing in Washington, D.C., and attending Bible Class on Tuesday nights at the St. Matthes Baptist Church, she joined in 1986, under the leadership of the Rev. Maxwell M. Washington.  When Doris moved to Austin, Texas she was obedient to the Church Covenant and Joined. St. Edwards Baptist Church.  When she made the decision to retire in 1998, she made her wishes known to be reinstated as a member at St. Matthews.  Doris changed her membership to Mt. Nebo Morgantown in January 2014, under Rev. Rodney Smith.

Doris was educated in Fauquier County.  She graduated from W. C. Taylor High School in 1960.  She continued her education at Blackwell Business College in Washington, D.C.  Her work history includes multiple positions for the District of Columbia and concluded with the State of Texas under the leadership of the then Governor Ann Richards.  She was also a member of civic associations, including the NAACP.

Doris leaves behind two nephews: Duvall G. Bolden Jr. (Gail) and Jonathan S. Bolden, one sister-in-law: Mary Anne Bolden, a special friend Jacqueline Stewart, a host of cousins, close friends, and church family to cherish her memory.

Her ultimate goal and prayer was to live to reap the benefits and blessings of a heavenly home.

 
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 10 am until 11 am with funeral services starting at 11 am at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 4679 Free State Road, Marshall, VA, 20115.  Pastor Rodney L. Smith, Sr. will deliver the eulogy.
 
Interment will be in Mt. Morris Community Cemetery, Hume, VA
