Life and Faith
Donna Lou McFadden, age 68, of Leesburg, Virginia, peacefully transitioned from this life on December 20, 2025. She was born on August 2, 1957, in Lima, Ohio, to James and Odessa Bass, who preceded her in death.
From an early age, Donna demonstrated faith, kindness, dedication, and a deep love for her family and friends. She accepted Christ at a young age at Mount Olive Church of God in Christ in Lima, where she faithfully served as a nurse to the pastor, Elder Elijah Webster, as well as a member of the kitchen ministry. Her life reflected a steadfast commitment to faith, family, service, community, and her chosen profession as a psychiatric nurse.
Service and Career
Donna graduated from Lima Senior High School, Class of 1975. She then entered the United States Army, where she was selected to be a cadet at the United States Military Academy; although she chose not to accept the appointment, she served honorably for two years.
While on active duty, she met the love of her life, Letroy McFadden, and they were married on July 29, 1977, sharing forty-eight years of marriage. Donna later returned to school at The Ohio State University, where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing. She dedicated her career to psychiatric nursing, focusing on mental health and substance abuse recovery, serving at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia; with the American Red Cross in Nashville, Tennessee; and at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. Through her work and compassion, she left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Family
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, James L. and Odessa Bass; one brother, James L. Bass Jr.; and one sister, Deborah Mae Bass.
Donna is cherished by her husband, Letroy McFadden of Leesburg, VA; one daughter, Deborah Kaiser of Woodbridge, VA; and two sons, Chauvon L. (Alicia) McFadden of Leesburg, VA, and Terrence (Vanessa) Bass of Fairfield Township, OH. She is also survived by one sister, Diane Malachi of Colorado Springs, CO; three brothers, Darren (Pam) Bass of Lima, OH, James D. Bass of Centreville, VA, and Dexter (Kathleen) Bass of Sidney, OH. She leaves to cherish her memory two aunts, Margaret (Russell) Harris of Powell, TN, and Ella White of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren, Corey, Austin, and Alison; and a goddaughter, Shay Brooks of Prince Frederick, MD. She was also blessed with two very dedicated caregivers, Patricia Goodson and Monica Boafo, and a host of other loving family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her faith, compassion, and unwavering love.
Service Information
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 6531 Little Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039. Rev. Dr. Kevin B. Taylor will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will take place on Friday, February 6, 2025, 3 pm, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
