Diane Alice Morton, 86, of Warrenton, Virginia, said “goodnight” on November 12, 2025.
She was born in Washington, D.C., on January 30, 1939, to the late Caspa Harris, Sr., and Lucy (Tapscott) Harris and moved to Warrenton at a young age. She graduated from Taylor High school in 1957, and later married Harold S. Morton. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before his passing. Out of this union they had three children.
In earlier years, Diane was employed by Safeway and Joynes Funeral Home. She then worked in education for 15 years for Fauquier County which included VEA and NEA in which she is a lifetime member.
Her love for antiques drew her to be an employee at Fox Den Antiques for 9 years. She started her own business “A Touch of Love” where she made floral arrangements for weddings and other occasions. She catered for 40 years along with family participation and baked for farmer’s markets as well, which also included homemade goodies for the Washington Redskins and crafts for their wives.
Her Christian service at Poplar Fork Baptist Church began in 1948 and she remained a faithful servant until her passing. Singing in the choir was her passion and later she participated on the culinary committee. Her favorite scripture was Proverbs 31 in which she was a virtuous woman as it states.
Diane loved going to yard sales and auctions and one of her favorite past times was packing up the camper and heading to Williamsburg to purchase items for her crafts but celebrating Christmas with her family was her absolute joy! She was a true friend and the family connector. She would encourage you, express her opinion, and love you unconditionally. Diane had a heart of gold and always gave you advice that would be helpful. She could make something out of nothing and made strangers into friends. She had a talent for talking and her telephone buddies will truly miss her voice. Her special relationships were a treasure to her heart, and you know who you are. Diane was blessed to have two brothers, but she wanted a sister, so she adopted two of her cousins and she, Gwen Wood and Anita LeMone became the “Golden Girls” and acquired many life long memories.
Diane’s memories will be held in the hearts of those she treasured: children: Aneva Carter (Greg), Yvette Coleman (Monte), and Brian Morton (Kim); grandchildren, Jasmine Ford (Terrence), Whitney Herron (DWann), Kyndall White (Gene), Spencer Carter (Samanatha), Kyle Coleman (Jamie), and Kia Skinner (Zion); great-grands, Jace, Jaelle, Jensen, Karter, Karmen, Channing, Kash, Mila, and Londyn; beloved godchildren, Jay (Mary) Pitts, Barry (Stephanie) Pitts, and Melandie Adams; in-laws, Eva Harris, Delores Claytor, Yvonne McNeil, Jerri Morton, Loretta (George) Farmer, Leonard (Sheila) Morton, Robert (Debbie) Morton, and Eleanor Porter; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death her two brothers, Caspa and Harrington Harris; sisters-in-law, Peggy Harris and Sylvia Claytor; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Claytor, Walt McNeil, Edward Porter, Donald Claytor, and Odia Morton..
