David James LaVoy left this temporary earthly home March 29, 2021 at 9:53 a.m. at Fauquier Hospital. He had a better place to be. He was the third child of Francis Willard and Kathryn Brunner LaVoy, born February 19, 1950 in Glens Falls, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Linda LaVoy, niece Lori Gordon and brother-in-law Jerry Grant.
He attended and graduated 1968 from South Glen Falls High School, New York. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served his county from 1969 to 1973. Dave was a proud veteran and he wanted all to know it. His vehicle tag reads “GODNVETS”.
Dave’s career was with the United States Post Service where he was nicknamed “big foot”. He was also employed at Fairfax Hospital and Sherwin Williams.
Dave married his longtime friend and coworker Faye (Grant) LaVoy on June 28, 2008. His new family loved and embraced him and will cherish his memories. He loved to cook and to entertain. He was a great storyteller and could always make you laugh. Dave was husband, dad, brother, uncle, and proud grandfather.
Dave grew up in the Methodist faith. He began his new walk with God when he was baptized at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Rectortown, VA on February 3, 2013. He became known throughout the local churches as the “Carrot Cake Man” He later moved his membership to Belvoir Assembly of God, Marshall, VA and was accepted as a member December 15, 2019. Under the leadership of Pastor Robert Shank, Dave worshiped and became a part of the Assembly of God family. He loved dressing up to attend the Sunday morning worship service. He looked forward to attending the Men’s Ministry group meetings and the Zesty Seniors’ activities. He made new friends there.
Dave was an animal lover. He told stories of his pet ownership adventures with dogs, cats, and birds. He ventured into the bird business where he sold and collected exotic birds. He played golf, bowled, and loved baseball. He played little league as a young boy, on the high school golf team, a bowling league and continued to enjoy golf as an adult. He also enjoyed many early mornings fishing on his bass boat with family, friends or just by himself. And of course, his favorite pastime was watching the New York Yankees play baseball. Whether it was at a stadium or on the television, Dave rarely missed a game.
His latest passion was enjoying the Christmas season and lighting up the house or the “mountain” as we call it. He started putting up lights in October to be completed by Christmas.

Dave leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Faye Grant LaVoy, Marshall, VA; two daughters: Catherine LaVoy, Norfolk, VA and Michelle Graumann (Kevin) Yorktown, VA one grandson, Jonathan Graumann Yorktown, VA; one sister, Gayle Pronto (Gary) Lakeland, FL; one niece, Debra Vandenburg (Tim), Gansevoort NY; one stepson, Anthony Grant, Marshall, VA; in-laws: John and Joyce Lassenberry, MD Oscar and Gloria Grant of NC; and Thomas and Eva Grant of cousins and friends.
