Dave’s career was with the United States Post Service where he was nicknamed “big foot”. He was also employed at Fairfax Hospital and Sherwin Williams.
Dave married his longtime friend and coworker Faye (Grant) LaVoy on June 28, 2008. His new family loved and embraced him and will cherish his memories.  He loved to cook and to entertain.  He was a great storyteller and could always make you laugh.  Dave was husband, dad, brother, uncle, and proud grandfather.

Dave grew up in the Methodist faith.  He began his new walk with God when he was baptized at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Rectortown, VA on February 3, 2013.  He became known throughout the local churches as the “Carrot Cake Man” He later moved his membership to Belvoir Assembly of God, Marshall, VA and was accepted as a member December 15, 2019. Dave was an animal lover. He told stories of his pet ownership adventures with dogs, cats, and birds.  He ventured into the bird business where he sold and collected exotic birds.  He played golf, bowled, and loved baseball. He played little league as a young boy, on the high school golf team, a bowling league and continued to enjoy golf as an adult. He also enjoyed many early mornings fishing on his bass boat with family, friends or just by himself. And of course, his favorite pastime was watching the New York Yankees play baseball.  Whether it was at a stadium or on the television, Dave rarely missed a game.

His latest passion was enjoying the Christmas season and lighting up the house or the “mountain” as we call it.  He started putting up lights in October to be completed by Christmas.

He attended and graduated 1968 from South Glen Falls High School, New York. He enlisted in the US Air Force and served his county from 1969 to 1973.  Dave was a proud veteran and he wanted all to know it.  His vehicle tag reads “GODNVETS”.

My dad was an outgoing people person. He loved to talk and to socialize with everyone he met. He was an animal lover and passed that love on to his children. I love him very much.

When I think of Dave whom I haven’t seen since high school the first thing I remember is he was the definition of a good guy and friend. We reconnected on Facebook recently so I know his faith in God has assured his place in heaven. David Rest In Peace and I hope to see you again.

I will forever remember your friendship and the fun times we had preparing food with the men in the Mount Olive church kitchen.
Your carrot cake was the best and people could not wait to get a slice or two!  You are probably cooking in heaven.
Our thoughts and prayers for the LaVoy family!
