Constance Pendleton Obituary

Constance Corrine Bailey Pendleton passed peacefully in her home in Fairfax, Virginia at the age of 86. She was born on September 9, 1935 at Garfield Memorial Hospital, Washington, District of Columbia as the first child of Manuel Jackson Bailey and Mary Virginia Wells Bailey Penic. She was the formerly married to Nelson Sheridan Pendleton, father of their four children.

She attended Delaplane Elementary School and Manassas Industrial High School (Formerly Jennie Dean High School). She took classes in General Studies at Northern Virginia Community College. She is a former resident of Markham, Virginia; Delaplane, Virginia; and Burlington, Vermont.

Ms. Pendleton started her employment as a Lacer Patrolman at Avtex Fibers in Front Royal, Virginia. She was one of the First Women to come out of Fauquier County to be trained in the Engineering Department at Avtex Fibers.  She went on to work for the International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in Manassas, Virginia and subsequently Burlington, Vermont. At IBM, she was an Assembler then promoted to a Process Control Inspector and Quality Control Inspector.

She was a member of the Beulah Baptist Church, Markham, Virginia, where she was baptized in 1947 at the age of 12 under the Reverend Nathan H. Johnson.

Ms. Pendleton was a successful real estate owner and landlord who provided safe housing to those in need. She was a fierce advocate for women and children of domestic violence, the homeless, the hungry, and the incarcerated often times using her own personal resources.

She was an avid sports fan. Some of her hobbies included photography and fishing. In her leisure time, she enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, and completing Word Find Trivia books. A Genealogist, she loved researching and recounting the history of our Ancestors. Foremost, she enjoyed hosting family gatherings.

Ms. Pendleton leaves to cherish her memory three children: John M. Pendleton (Kathleen) of Oak Harbor, Washington, Virginia P. Momoh (Pius) of Vienna, Virginia, and Robin P. Allen, Esq. (Shaune) of Hyattsville, Maryland; two siblings: Josephine P. Warner and Joseph Penic IV of Markham, Virginia; nine grandchildren Lavern, Angela, Midia, Amanda, Marcus, Gabrielle, Emmanuel, Joshua, and Michael; adopted daughters Chong P. Lee of South Korea/Rockville, Maryland, Cecilia Avhuedoya Itsuokor Graves (Craig), and Margaret Alake Itsuokor Matterson both of Ogbona, Nigeria/Culpeper, Virginia; and a host of loved great grandchildren, family, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sherrill C. Pendleton; one sister, Bessie B. Lucas; and three brothers, Manuel J. Bailey-Harrington, Charles Harrington, and Eric J. Bailey.


Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 11 am until 12 pm with funeral services starting at 12 pm, at Joynes Funeral Home, 29 N. Third St., Warrenton, VA 20186.  
 
Interment will be in Mt. Morris Community Cemetery, Hume, VA.
