Clara Jenkins Obituary

Clara Ethel Jenkins departed this life on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at her home with her children at her side. She was born on January 11, 1933 to the late Howard Major Wines and the late Delia Cornelia Wines.

She married the love of her life, Herman Nathaniel Jenkins Sr. Their union together was 69 years, and he was truly her “Toddie” and she was his “Sugarpuddin”.

She accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age and became a member of St. James Baptist Church. She served on the Women’s Ministry and the cooking committee.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Patricia Washington (Daniel Sr.), Fiesta Jenkins and Elsie Brown all of Bealeton, VA; two sons: Ervin Jenkins Sr. of Bealeton, VA, and Rev. John Jenkins III (Gloria) of Springfield, VA; one brother: Michael Parker; 23 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; and 34 great-great grandchildren.

Clara loved her family and was not just mom, but she and dad took on raising several of their grandchildren as their own. They even accepted three young ladies into their family as their daughters: Dr. Shelia Graves, Mildred Washington, and Valerie Jackson. Carrie Washington was one of her best friends, neighbor, and she loved as a sister.

Clara was a homemaker, and worked various jobs outside the home; Fauquier Laundromat, the old Central Elementary School and Oak Springs Nursing Home for years. She loved to cook and canned. You never came into the house for a visit without sitting down at the table to eat or take a plate home with you. She enjoyed watching her soaps, Judge Judy, Judge Mathis, Steve Harvey Show, and BET. She enjoyed going to the beach with her family and would pack her suitcase two weeks prior to going.

She also, had a love for animals. She loved her Chihuahuas; small in size but big in personalities. She also, fed stray cats and in the winter gave them shelter.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Jenkins, Sr. ; two sons: Herman Jr. and James Mudd; one daughter Emily Marie; one granddaughter, Nikki Michelle; one grandson, Shelton; one great grandson, DeVon; one daughter-in-law, Cecile; 3 sisters; 2 brothers; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.
