Bernice Grant Toliver, 98, of Springfield, VA, passed January 24, 2021.
Bernice was born on September 17, 1922, in Bradenton, FL. She attended Bethune Cookman College where she became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. After nursing school, Bernice became a nurse for the Veterans Administration in Brentwood California where she worked until retirement in the late 1970s. Bernice was a member of First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME) in Los Angeles, California where she served as an usher and a steward. She also served as an officer with the League of Women Voters. She was a dynamic caring person who cherished life and interacting with people all over the globe. She loved traveling to Europe, Israel, and the Far East. As a member of the Kennedy Center, she relished attending the opera, stage plays and the symphony.
Bernice is survived by her husband Gilbert E. Jones, of Springfield, VA, and numerous family friends and admirers throughout the world.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, 10 AM, at Arlington National Cemetery.
