Alice Lightfoot Obituary

Alice Patricia (Pat) Lightfoot, of Gainesville, VA, passed away on December 6, 2024. She was 88 years old.

She was born on March 22, 1936 and was predeceased by her parents, Zeff and Alice Porter; her sister, June Penn; three brothers: Zeff (Sonny), Solomon, and Warren. She was the second elder sibling. Pat leaves her brother, Conway, his wife, Miriam; and their three sons: Christopher, Mark, and Richard and their children. She also leaves her daughter and care giver, Alison Delores; two sons: Ernest (Lisa) and Branch; four grandchildren: Sonali, Danielle, Amber, and Megan; seven great grandchildren: Camden, Christopher, Aaron, Tobias, Mia, Ignacio, and London; and a god-daughter, Cynthia Lewis.

Pat grew up in the rural suburbs of Warrenton, VA. There were many  cousins and extended family members to play with and create memories, some great, some not so great. She always reminded her children that you just needed some mud and imagination to have fun!

Pat attended Rosenwald School through the early grades until the new William C. Taylor High School was built. After graduation she attended Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA. Once there her romance with a dashing trumpet player blossomed and the rest is history. Her husband, Addison E. Lightfoot preceded her in death.

Pat was one of the first female computer programmers/systems analysts in a predominantly male industry at Melpar (later named E-Systems) developing training cockpits for Huey helicopters. Later she moved to McDonnell Douglas remaining in the aeronautical industry. She later became a government contractor and entrepreneur for approximately 20 years, maintaining an office in the Anacostia section of Washington, DC. She traveled to different parts of our great country to help companies and the government solve their computer-based problems.

In her spare time, Pat was chairperson of the American Red Cross in Prince William County, chairperson and long time committee member of the Prince William Human Rights Commission. Pat was also a former chairperson of the Prince William County Democratic Committee and was a candidate for the Brentsville Area Board of Supervisors position.

On most Sundays Pat would be the spoiler for every baby, toddler, and hyperactive kid in churches that were not fortunate enough to have separate day care facilities. Many toy cars and trucks rolled across church floors during and after services and her pastors can vouch for that.

Later, Pat, along with a handful of others, decided to find a new church location with the desire to have a greater understanding of the Holy Word and a fresh view of how it applied to every believer. Her brilliance is now a brighter star in Heaven.
